Hello class and Dr. Chapman,
My areas of focus for the Discussion Paper are on the effect of continuous self-monitoring compared to glucose meter monitoring in adult diabetes patients, and its effects on the level of A1c. Population, in this case, focused on a specific group of the population, adults with diabetes.
The interventions are the continuous monitoring of blood sugar among adults with diabetes mellitus. Studies have shown that properly maintaining a patient’s A1c at therapeutic level dictates a better prognosis and the management of complications associated with the disease.” Discussion Paper
Among adults with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes treated with basal insulin without prandial insulin, continuous glucose monitoring, as compared with blood glucose meter monitoring, resulted in significantly lower HbA1c levels at 8 months.” (Martens., T at al., 2021) Discussion Paper
The outcome is expected in an improved A1c level and consequently better prognosis or maintenance of the disease. A1c normally represents good blood sugar management in diabetes patients over the period of 3months. Thereby, using a period of 6months in my PICOT system will enable a 2cycle data collection.
P= Adult Diabetes Mellitus patients
I=Continuous blood sugar monitoring Versus blood glucose
O=Improved A1C
T=6months period
PICOT: In adult diabetes mellitus patients, how does improve A1c compare, in patients with continuous self-blood sugar monitoring and patients with Blood glucose monitoring within 6 months
