Discussion Question-Topic 1 |
Based on the PICOT you developed for NUR-550, summarize the change initiative you will be proposing. How does this support the population of focus, your setting, and role? Justify how the problem you selected to investigate is amenable to a research-based intervention using the PICOT format.

Trauma-Informed Care
Children may undergo different traumas, which include neglect, abuse, and household challenges. Trauma can also begin in the prenatal stage of a mother’s pregnancy depending on the mother’s level of stress and proceed on as the child goes through adverse childhood experiences (Jankowski et al., 2019). Traumatic experiences can disrupt the neurodevelopment of children and affect their social, emotional, and cognition development, which may eventually result in the children adopting health risk behaviors as they grow, disability, disease, and ultimately early death (Jankowski et al., 2019). Scholarly studies have therefore shown that the use of trauma-informed care will be more effective in alleviating trauma in children and promoting their holistic wellbeing (Maynard et al., 2019). Trauma-informed care has also been shown to be an effective intervention in diverse populations of children, with this approach being more effective in helping traumatized children to acquire more skills, improve child behavior, and reduce behavioral issues (Maynard et al., 2019). I will therefore be initiating the change initiative of the introduction of trauma-informed care in the pediatric care facility that I work. The introduction of trauma-informed care to replace traditional therapies such as eye movement desensitization will therefore help to promote the holistic wellbeing of all the traumatized children in the facility. As a pediatrician, the introduction of trauma-informed care will also ensure that I fulfill my role of caring for traumatized children better and assuring the children of better outcomes. The problem which I selected to investigate is therefore amenable to research-based interventions through my PICOT question of: In children who have gone through a traumatic event (P), the use of trauma-informed care (I) is more effective than the use of specific therapies such as eye movement desensitization(C) in promoting the holistic wellbeing of children (O) over a period of six months (T).
