Evidence-Based Practice

In my specialty area of Advanced Public Health, evidence-based practice plays a vital role. EBP has therefore helped to improve standards in public health which have led to the development of the field of Evidence-Based Public Health (EBPH) (Lhachimi et al., 2016). Through EBPH, advanced public health practitioners can effectively integrate evidence from practice and scientific research so as to adequately improve the health of target populations (Lhachimi et al., 2016). EBP, therefore, helps advance public health practitioners to make the right decisions on the basis of highest quality available practice and scientific evidence using effective research methodologies and data collection strategies while at the same time engaging the specific target communities in their decision-making (Vanagas et al., 2017). The adoption of the EBP approach to advance public health practice, therefore, has numerous benefits, including increasing the likelihood of effective prevention policies and programs, boosting the access of more and quality information on best approaches and practices, promoting efficient use of resources, and enhancing workforce productivity (Vanagas et al., 2017).

The implementation of EBP in advanced public health is similar to implementation among advanced practice registered nurses in that in both of these specialties, evidence-based practice promotes the searching of high-quality information that is used to support solutions interventions. Both advanced public health practitioners and advanced practice registered nurses also utilize EBP to obtain current research and increase clinical expertise in decision-making processes (Li et al., 2019). On the other hand, the role of EBP and its implementation differs between advanced public health practitioners and advanced practice registered nurses in that EBPH directs the implementation of effective prevention policies and programs while EBP among APRNs is mainly focused on implementing the right intervention on individual patients (Li et al., 2019).
