What strategies will you use in your new practice as an advance registered nurse to review and critique literature pertinent to your practice?

As an advanced public health nurse, I must review and critique literature to ensure that I remain informed on the current strategies necessary for disease and injury prevention, promotion, and maintenance of health in the community. New research recommending new practices in public health are continually released, and it is thus important for the nurse to review and critique research to determine those that are reliable and applicable. Some of the strategies that I will use include the use of critical appraisal tool, using research articles from credible database sources, (Moralejo et al., 2017).

A critical appraisal tool evaluates the quality of published research materials by providing analytical evaluations of the research studies especially the methods used to minimize bias in research. The tool consists of algorithms that identify the type of design used and additional tools that support and guides how to analyze and draw conclusions about the evidence provided. New evidence does not always mean it is the best method or it is even reliable and by using a critical appraisal tool one can evaluate the methods used to determine whether the results of the study are applicable in different environments/communities.  Another strategy would be to search for research articles in databases that are credible and highly recommended such as PubMed, which is used by several health facilities as a source of data other than using google to locate articles. Research articleS from credible databases are likely to be of good quality since they undergo rigorous reviewing therefore, they are better quality and have applicable information compared to those that are obtained from sources such as Google, (Buccheri & Sharifi, 2017).
