Discussion Question- Topic 5 DQ 2
In implementing my EBP project of trauma-informed care interventions among children in the health department, the two main stakeholder barriers I might experience include resistance to change among the public health nurses and the lack of support and funding from the executive management of the department. In the implementation of the project, the executive management could refuse to fund trauma-informed care intervention due to the higher costs associated with the program. To address this barrier, I would present the cost savings the implementation of a project would be associated with in the long run. This would make the executive management of the health department reconsider and agree to fund the program. I would also look for sponsorships and grants from non-governmental organizations and governmental organizations involved in child welfare services (Tappen et al., 2017). The sponsorships with therefore play a significant role in supporting the implementation of trauma-informed care interventions project.
Resistance to change among the public health nurses working in the health department would also be a significant barrier to implementing trauma-informed care interventions. In healthcare settings, nurses might fear change when they do not understand its implication on their normal working activities (Mathieson et al., 2019). To address the resistance to change among public health nurses, I would form a trauma-informed care interventions implementation team. The implementation team would be charged with educating and sensitizing the public health nurses on the changes related to the project implementation and how such changes would impact the work activities of the nurses. Education and sensitization of public health nurses would make them more welcoming to implementing the evidence-based practice project.
