Discussion: Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice?
March 21, 2010, was not EBP’s date of birth, but it may be the date the approach “grew up” and left home to take on the world.
When the Affordable Care Act was passed, it came with a requirement of empirical evidence. Research on EBP increased significantly. Application of EBP spread to allied health professions, education, healthcare technology, and more. Health organizations began to adopt and promote EBP.
In this Discussion, you will consider this adoption. You will examine healthcare organization websites and analyze to what extent these organizations use EBP.

Choose a professional healthcare organization’s website (e.g., a reimbursing body, an accredited body, or a national initiative).
Explore the website to determine where and to what extent EBP is evident.
Post a description of the healthcare organization website you reviewed. Describe where, if at all, EBP appears (e.g., the mission, vision, philosophy, and/or goals of the healthcare organization, or in other locations on the website). Then, explain whether this healthcare organization’s work is grounded in EBP and why or why not. Finally, explain whether the information you discovered on the healthcare organization’s website has changed your perception of the healthcare organization. Be specific and provide examples.

Evidence-Based Practice
Evidence-Based Practice is a concept applied in the healthcare environment to improve quality of care and generate desired benefits for patients, healthcare providers, and the healthcare system as a whole. This concept aims at integrating various concepts which include best current research evidence, the expertise, and experiences of healthcare providers, and patient preferences into healthcare (Boyce, Gibson & Matsoukas, 2018).). Different healthcare organizations have incorporated this concept to achieve higher quality care delivery, reduced costs, and improved patient outcomes.
John Hopkins Hospital is one of the accredited healthcare institutions which embrace EBP. This is evident on its website. Its mission is to enhance the health of the nationally and internationally through advanced medical education, research, and clinical care (John Hopkins Hospital, 2019). Thus, the organization’s website lists various research institutes like the John Hopkins Evidence-based Practice Center.
The institution conducts research to assess and review all the available evidence on a specific health care issue. This is done to provide the least biased, more accurate, and applicable results; enhance EBP and policy decisions; identify and bridge gaps in knowledge (Harvey & Kitson, 2015). This practice promotes the current research evidence.
Besides, the hospital’s vision expresses the EBP concept. Its vision is to seek information and create innovative solutions, transform healthcare, and advance medical education (John Hopkins Hospital, 2019). Thus, under the school of medicine database, the website provides different educational programs which can help its healthcare professionals to improve their knowledge, skills, and behaviors. This promotes the clinical outcomes for their patients.
Also, its website comprises a research database that presents various resources put in place by the organization to conduct clinical investigations on various research topics. This enhances the discovery of new effective treatments for multiple disorders and diseases. Also, the website provides publications from different studies to increase knowledge and evidence base (Harvey & Kitson, 2015).
Lastly, the website comprises of the patient care database that incorporates EBP’s aspect of patient preferences. This section enhances access to health information, patient education, and healthcare professionals/specialists (Harvey & Kitson, 2015). It also comprises of patient testimonies and referrals section that facilitates the assessment of patient needs.
