  1. How does evidence-based practice influence and improve nursing care?

Evidence-based practice furnishes nurses with scientific research that they need to make informed decisions. Through evidence-based practice, nurses can therefore be updated on new and more effective approaches to care for their patients (Li et al., 2019). Evidence-based practice, therefore, improves nursing care by allowing nurses to utilize only documented interventions that fit their patients’ profile which increases the chances of positive outcomes (Li et al., 2019).

  1. What are barriers and probable limitations for implementing evidence-based practice and how would one overcome them?

The limitations and barriers of implementing evidence-based practice include organizational and individual barriers. Related to organizational barriers, healthcare facilities lack human resources defined by a shortage of nurses, resulting in a heavy workload. Therefore, nurses with heavy workloads will have no time to research and implement EBP (Abu-Baker et al., 2021). On the other hand, the lack of access to research material in a healthcare facility can hinder the implementation of evidence-based practice (Lehane et al., 2018). Individual barriers can also hinder the implementation of EBP in nursing practice, including insufficient technological skills, lack of time to read literature, and resistance to change. To address the barriers to implementing evidence-based nursing practice, the training of nurses on how to utilize the EBP process in practice settings can be conducted in healthcare facilities (Abu-Baker et al., 2021). On the other hand, a provision of resources such as access to the internet and adequate staffing in healthcare facilities can help reduce the workload among nurses and create time for nurses to read literature and adopt evidence-based practice (Lehane et al., 2018).

  1. From your perspective, which of the barriers to evidence-based nursing practice is the greatest? Provide the rationale for your answer.

In my opinion, the lack of time to read literature is the greatest barrier to evidence-based nursing practice.  The challenge of the nursing shortage is currently affecting nearly all healthcare facilities in the US. This results in heavy workloads among the current workforce and no time to read literature and implement EBP in healthcare settings (Li et al., 2019).

  1. What type of infrastructure is necessary to support EBP within an organizations?

The main infrastructure that can support EBP in an organization is adequate nurse staffing and the availability of reliable research material such as from the internet (Chien, 2019). By ensuring that healthcare facilities are adequately staffed, the executive management in such organizations can ensure nurses have time to research and read literature and implement EBP. On the other hand, providing reliable internet is the main tool that nurses can utilize to research new evidence-based practices related to their practice settings (Chien, 2019).

  1. What steps are used to evaluate the evidence within clinical practice guidelines?

The evidence-based process includes five steps, with the first step being the formulation of a clinical question. This is followed by the second step, which includes collecting the best research literature related to the clinical issue (Grove & Gray, 2019). The third step involves the critical appraisal of the collected evidence. The fourth step involves integrating the appraised evidence with patient preferences, clinical settings, and clinical expertise.  The final step entails the evaluation of the outcomes of the EBP decision (Grove & Gray, 2019).

  1. How can a culture be created to promote the use of EBP and how does it enhance the critical thinking at the bedside?

In a healthcare organization, an innovative culture can play a significant role in promoting the use of EBP. Through an innovative culture, a healthcare facility would therefore encourage inquiry and curiosity and support innovation, experimentation, and consistent change (Chien, 2019). Therefore, an innovative culture would promote critical thinking at the bedside, with nurses being encouraged to prove the best approaches using evidence as opposed to tradition.

  1. A new fall reduction strategy is being considered by several nurses after they attended a conference. They were able to get a handout explaining the program. What steps of the evidence-based practice model should be taken before considering the fall reduction strategy?

The nurses should first cultivate a spirit of inquiry and determine the rates of force in their current practice settings. They should then be followed by formulating a picot question and seeking to collect, critically appraise all information related to the best practices of reducing falls. The nurses can then analyze what they have collected information and integrate it with patient preferences in the healthcare facility and clinical expertise. Finally, the nurses can evaluate and disseminate the practice change outcomes from their new fall reduction strategy (Grove & Gray, 2019).

  1. What elements must be identified in the literature on fall reduction initiatives and how are they compared and contrasted? How do nurses evaluate the clinical significance within the literature? Why is the clinical significance evaluated?

The elements that must be identified in the literature related to fall reduction initiatives include the effectiveness of the initiatives, when they were adopted, and the validity and reliability of studies. The most effective and latest strategies would therefore be considered. Nurses consider the currency, validity, and reliability of studies and their level of evidence to determine their clinical significance (Chien, 2019).
