Purpose of Assignment:
According to Larson, Brady, Engelmann, Perkins, and Shultz (2013), ”the development of professional identity is a continuous process that begins with admission to the nursing program and evolves throughout one’s professional career in a dynamic and fluid process where interacting relationship of education and practice lead to self-reflection, growth, and human flourishing” (p. 138).

Describe the foundations of nursing practice.
Identify roles and responsibilities for safe nursing practice in the healthcare environment.
Explain the roles and scope of practice for members of the intraprofessional team.
Instructions:
This course includes a project with three parts. Each part builds off prior knowledge to help you create your nurse professional identity. In the first part, you examine the role of the nurse and scope of practice, which will help you identify the nurses’ role. In the second part, you describe the importance of the code of ethics in nursing, and examine the standards of nursing practice for the role you are obtaining during the nursing program. The final submission requires you to use the first two parts of your assignment to explain your belief of caring in nursing, describe your professional identity, and identify a potential professional organization that you may join to help support your development.
Content:
Prepare a two to three page written assignment that includes the following:
- Introduction to the assignment (sections of the assignment: caring, professional identity, and professional organizations/associations)
- Explain your belief of caring in nursing (self, nursing, environment, and profession)
- Describe your professional identity including your beliefs, values, motives, and experiences
- Discuss one to two professional organizations/associations you plan to be involved in during your nursing career
- Conclusion (reflect on the criteria of the assignment; caring, professional identity, and professional organizations/associations)
- Use at least two credible resources to support your findings. For example, one of the resources could be the website for a professional organization or association, and another resource could be a textbook. These resources must be integrated into the body of your paper using at least two in-text citations. Be sure to use proper APA format and style.

Professional Identity of the Nurse
The concept of professional identity in the nursing sector aims at enhancing the effectiveness of the nurses by portraying their full understanding of their defined roles and perfect fostering of their clients in the health sector. The tern can be defined as the nurse’s inner self to the relation of the legal profession. So, it acts as a guiding block. It involves the nurse’s attitudes, beliefs, knowledge, values, and skills that workers possess within a particular professional group. It calls for caring, which involves looking after someone who needs our support, resulting from sickness, older people, or has disabilities and complications. For nursing, there is support to be guided by their expertise identity and take care of patients or other people who may need their attention. To enable this, there rises a need to have professional associations or organizations. Their main function in the nursing field is provisions of standards and moderating other professional discussions with relevant bodies. They also give out useful information which may add competency for the nurses. Therefore, professional organizations and other relevant bodies shape the nurse’s identity to increase their competency when dealing with patients.
My Belief in Caring in Nursing
From my perspective, I agree with the theory of cultural care and the human caring theory, which try to understand what the caring concept entails. When we come to the nursing sector, which is inseparable when we talk about patient caring, the term has a very broad meaning. For instance, some researchers show that caring may involve many things such as values, actions, commitment to do it, and also knowledge for caring (Nunnery, 2019). For this reason, I consider caring to be both an art and a science. Nurses should be taught how to develop positive identity, such as attitudes when dealing with their patients. They should also create a conducive environment that makes people feel they have been taken care of well. Apart from caring for other people, nurses should be in a position to take care of themselves. This can be enabled by training them on how to do it. Also, during their nursing roles, they should portray caring, for example, by respecting, listening, comforting, and providing useful information to the patient. Therefore, caring knowledge is very important.
Describing my Professional Identity
Identification of professional Identity is a key factor to increase performance effectiveness. It opens up other opportunities within someone’s career and aligns our undertakings with our values. The importance of this is that it helps a person to maintain his/her sense of self. Some of the very important values in nursing practice include honesty, commitment, law-abiding, and promoting equality and justice to all people around us (Pimenta & Souza, 2017). Even if there are some guiding rules on nurses and other staff, it should never comprise their freedom, security or deny them time to spend with their family. As a nurse professional, I know my main motive is to provide services professionally. So, I always work toward achieving the organization’s mission and vision. I embrace positive attitudes and beliefs, good motives, values, and seeks more experience during my work. All these tend to define my professional identity, which helps me to work diligently.
Professional Organizations
Nursing professional organization refers to those bodies that play a major role in nursing career by offering education, conferences, enhancing their competencies and opportunities in certification. Their main function is to encourage and promoting nurse members to practice evidence-based operations. An example of the nursing professional organization includes; American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) which provides opportunities for nurses to have education program continuation through providing study materials (Indeed Career Guide, 2021). By joining this organization, I will enjoy professional certification and knowledge accumulation. Another professional organization am planning to join during my nursing career is the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses (AANN). This is because it will allow me to further my knowledge. For AANN, it is ideal as it offers professional growth opportunities.
Conclusion
To sum up, the concept of caring, professional identity, and nursing professional organization gives us a perfect picture of effective collaboration. Professional associations are very important in this case, and they work to encourage and promote nurses by increasing their competency. Considering the benefit derived by joining such an organization, it is worth being a member to any, which a nurse may prefer. On the caring part, it is clear it is more than art, and nurses should be equipped will knowledge on how to it best. To understand what caring entails, it is very good to consider the two sides, and integration of the concept learned will result in excellent caring, leading to everyone’s betterment. The professional identity concept cannot be ignored as it is the connector for almost every activity aimed at improving people’s life. Nurses should adopt positive motives and attitudes that will help them improve their values and promote their sense of self. Therefore, it is indisputable that caring, professional identity, and the organization play a crucial role in the nursing environment.
