Ethics in nursing provides a vivid description based on moral and sound decisions derivation. Nurses rely on nursing ethics while evaluating moral questions where acceptable actions and cultures are defined using nursing values. Hence, nurses should uphold trust from the population they serve and maintain the highest standards when conducting their daily activities. The paper aims at reflecting on the results of the ethical questions, ways to apply the principles in the professional practice and personal nursing philosophy.

Ethical Questions Results Reflection

The ethical questions results enabled me to understand what ethics and morals entail. Through these questions, I have understood that I can refer that I am in a dilemma when surrounded by two conflicting factors on moral and ethical principles. Hence, while evaluating the best way to make informed decisions relying on the provided morals and ethical principles in moral discourse, the factors to consider are normative ethics, metaethics, cases and rules and rights. For instance, while addressing moral discourse, I will need to ensure that I scrutinize its levels through the help of their respective theories. For instance, when addressing factors concerning normative ethics, theories such as virtue, value and action theories will help me determine the best approach to act on my duty-based principles. Consequently, I have also learned the effectiveness of maintaining my career-based fidelity through being committed and keeping promises to ensure that I maintain the virtue of my contract.

Ways to the Apply the Ethical Principles in Professional Practice

Nurses act as patient’s advocates where they need to balance patient care delivery, considering that every patient has the right to make decisions (Horntvedt et al., 2018). However, in nursing, ethical dilemmas are common where the nurse might be torn between right and wrong. The situation arises because nurses acknowledge various ethical factors that affect their patients and other staff through learning nursing ethics (Farokhzadian et al., 2018). For instance, some nurses may find it hard to deal with moral questions when a patient wants to procure an abortion since it raises moral and ethical concerns. When nurses deal with such normative ethics, the virtue theory will be essential in helping me deal with the moral question as an individual nurse in developing the right action that will help enhance the patient’s well-being. Hence, if the patient requests overwhelm my critical thinking, I will first find out if the healthcare facility I work in has a multidisciplinary ethics committee to help resolve ethical conflicts and dilemmas. However, suppose there is no such committee. In that case, I will ensure that I research what professional nursing bodies such as the American Medical Association’s Code of Ethics or American Nurses Association’s Code of Ethics highlight about the issue.

Personal Nursing Philosophy

Nursing philosophy entails a statement where the nurse outlines their beliefs, ethics and values, including the motivation that helps them in their professional practice. According to Milliken (2018), nursing philosophy reflects the nurses perspective concerning their patient care ethic, practice and education. Hence, my nursing philosophy incorporates providing care to my patients by engaging them with the utmost compassion, care, and respect using a holistic approach while considering any other patient care aspects. Considering that each day, I will encounter patients from different cultures, races, ages, religions, gender and values, it will be essential for me to understand and realize the patient’s differences which will help me create an emotional connection and trust with them. Hence, I acknowledge that I will need to engage in effective emotional and physical medical care and attention when dealing with the patients.
