Assess special problems of high-risk populations and health system responses.

Introduction

Nursing studies require one to have the positive attitude when pursuing the different courses provided under the nursing practice umbrella. The studies are rather diverse in their informational content and require one to be fully focused and committed to learning alone in order to gain the competencies expected in bachelors or masters degree in the nursing science (Masters, 2017).

Individuals are expected to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes that facilitate the process of achieving various competencies in bachelors and masters degree in science of nursing. These three factors are pivotal since they define the level of success one would achieve in terms of learning in higher education studies. The less these aforementioned factors might turn out to be, the less it would be the competencies achieved in the featured nursing disciplines.

If one is not dedicated to learning or does not have the passion to be a nurse or a health care provider in future, then this means he or she would develop little or no knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for gaining competencies in the different bachelors and masters’ degree levels. Below is a reflective artifact showing how many of the successful individuals with anticipated competencies in bachelors and masters degree in nursing have developed the necessary skills, attitudes and knowledge which is pivotal for gain those efficacies (competencies).

Development of Knowledge Required for Achieving Bachelor’s/masters’ Competencies

Bachelors’ degree in nursing requires one to have competencies in primary health care service provision. This includes services such as performing diagnosis, prescribing for therapy and medications. Also, one has to have competencies in running entry-level nursing positions. On the other hand, masters’ degree requires individuals to have competencies in nursing administration, clinical nurse leadership, and clinical nurse or nurse practitioner education. Therefore, one would say that for individuals to attain the competencies required in masters’ level, they have to be highly educated than in bachelors’ level.

Thus, individuals will often develop knowledge in such programs through field projects or rather during practical work which is regularly exercised by nursing students (Lynn, Boatright & Heath, 2013). As nursing studies present their course coverage, majority of the learning time is spend in the field whereby the students get to put into practice the theoretical knowledge gained in class work.

It is through this consistent experimental medicine programs that these learners in bachelors’ and masters’ degree in nursing get a chance to gather vital and relevant knowledge about competencies for masters and bachelors in nursing science. The field work is not the same between these two nursing study levels since masters is like an advancement of studies learned in bachelors’ level. Thus, this makes the knowledge development to be somehow different based on the practical exercises provided in the real life trailing.

Besides the internship programs in which nursing students are enrolled in for skills, knowledge and attitude acquisition, there are projects which students have to carry out in order for their tutors or course instructors to ascertain on the competencies gained. These projects are commonly prevalent in masters’ degree in nursing studies, and students tend to rely on them for knowledge acquisition or development.

When carrying out a project on a given nursing topic or serving an internship program for bachelors’ degree students, the learners often interact with the outside world and other experienced nursing professionals. Therefore, they will be able to gain new knowledge from these experts who have served the global patient populations for quite some time. Hence, masters’ projects and internship programs for bachelors’ degree help students in these two learning levels to develop the necessary knowledge required of them to gain competencies in them respectively.

Development of Skills Required for Achieving Bachelor’s/masters’ Competencies

Skills in nursing practice are often acquired through regular training and retraining programs imposed on nursing staff. For the case of those still in medical schools pursing a bachelors or masters’ degree, they often rely on observational methods to gain the skills.

The aforementioned method necessitates one to be physically present in a health care facility setting for them to see and learn on the skills required to administer the different treatments. The tendency of sending the masters and bachelors students to different health care organization to serve for a finite period, this provides them with a chance to develop skills on how the real life medicine works.

Nursing practice is always built on existing nursing standards and protocols. This is the bottom line upon which the learners establish their skills foundation for they only acquire what has always been exercised by the past generations who served as health care providers. Therefore, nursing course attachments and project help learners in bachelors and masters’ degree programs to acquire the necessary skills for achieving competencies in the same.

Development of Attitudes Required for Achieving Bachelor’s/masters’ Competencies

Attitudes refer to the personal feelings that one hold about a certain issue or towards a particular event. Nursing studies require people with positive attitudes and a referencing slogan that “everything is possible so long as its root-cause is known.” Considering the fact that nursing profession is often faced with complex health care issues that require a lot of thinking and rationality, it is pivotal that one enters this field with positive attitude for this would be used as a factor creating hope among the nurses to deal with these complexities presented before them.

Integrating this ideology to the topic at hand, one would say that learners pursing bachelors and masters’ degree programs have to undertake their studies with positive attitude in order to overcome the challenges befalling their way of learning. Thus, these students will often develop the right attitudes for achieving competencies in these two study levels through self-regulatory behaviors. One would have the right attitude if they adjust on their behaviors and perceptions about the studies they undertake.

Conclusion

Of the two nursing practice learning levels, masters requires a lot of training to acquire the best skills, attitudes, and knowledge on how to achieve the competencies anticipated within this particular program. Bachelors’ degree is commonly associated with competencies such as providing primary care and serving in entry-level nursing position.

On the other hand, masters’ degree prepares individuals for nursing administration roles, clinical nurse educator roles, and serving in the higher ranks nursing positions. However, they have a similarity in that individuals develop knowledge and skills required to gain competencies in these two courses through field work projects and internship programs. The attitudes are shaped by the self-regulatory behaviors that students exhibit in the nursing studies. Therefore, with possession of these three elements, one would be able to gain competencies in bachelors/masters’ degree programs in nursing science.
