Halftime Team Talk
My attitude as a coach would be to have a positive attitude to boost their confidence for the next fixture as this was one in a pool of matches. Employing tactics, I can help the players be focused on the upcoming fixture and that all hope is not lost for the loss of one match. Moreover, as a team, we shall take the loss as a learning experience to improve in the upcoming fixture (Smith et al., 2016). The post-team talk will be employed to lift their spirits to prevent them from wallowing in self-pity and let them know I am not mad despite the loss. My job is to make sure they do not lose their self-confidence or self-esteem since it can lead to more losses in the future.
During the post-game team talk, I would expect them to have a negative attitude and be less motivated and determined due to the loss suffered, but my job as a coach is to lift their spirits for the next match and not dwell on what has happened. Becoming motivated and determined will make them work harder in the pitch and believe in themselves perform better in the future (Smith et al., 2016) Self-Confidence or Self-Esteem Essay.
I would want to point out that the loss should be a one-off and not a recurring event and that if self-confidence is lost, it will lead to a string of losses that could be detrimental to the league position. Furthermore, there should be an analysis of what went on the pitch, and as a coach will come up with ways to mitigate such instances for better results in the future. My suggestion would be for the players to pick themselves up from the bad loss and keep the focus, for there are many more games to look forward to (Ntoumanis & Mallett, 2014)
The expectations going home would be for people to do whatever soothes them from the loss to recover very fast for training in two days where there will be analysis on the training sessions to cover the holes from the loss. And they should try to move on forward from the performance and not visit social media sites to avoid looking at criticism from fans and the pundits. I expect them to partake in activities that will enable self-soothing (O’rourke et al., 2014).
The next day would be a day of reflection on what went wrong during the previous match and what training methods will be adjusted to ensure that the players are better prepared for future situations. The previous match will not be used as a weapon against the players since there are many more games to play and should be used as a confidence booster. The loss ought to be used as a learning curve in shaping the team to becoming much stronger against most opponents. Further, it is a wake-up call to treat opponents with the respect they deserve, not to undermine lower division teams Self-Confidence or Self-Esteem Essay.
After video analysis of the loss, they would need to develop training tactics to ensure that the weaknesses are converted into strengths and opportunities to outscore future opponents. The training session will ensure that the players have addressed the weakness to boost their morale (O’rourke et al., 2014). The players will also be able to raise concerns through the captain on ways to improve the team in future games, or if they have personal matters affecting their on-pitch performance, the coach’s office is always open.
